Like the top of some terribly high and distant Everest.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And today, it's a little bit closer.</content>

    <content type="html">Sunday, Faux News Nobody Liz Trotta joked about how she hoped that Obama would be assassinated.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/5/25/15389/8576/115/522617"&gt;Follow the link for the Video and for email addresses you can write to.&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Please take a moment to write. This "gaffe" happened during the holiday weekend and the media may choose to ignore it. But we must not.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There will always be gaffes on live TV, and generally, we shouldn't get bent out of shape over them - but this is far beyond the pale. Fox news can be openly partisan if it wants, but there has to be a line, and it has to be enforced. They may NOT call for the assassination of the candidates they do not like.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Liz Trotta must apologize. And then she must be fired with prejudice. And then she should be investigated by the Secret Service in case she is planning anything violent.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Thank you.</content>

All over the US, people are drifting away from vaccinating their kids.     <content type="html">These are the sorts of things i when i stroll through my files.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a name="cutid1"&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6-1. Third shift. The Command Deck.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I had taken Ops for Ensign Wing while she was "getting some synthcoffee". Lt Cyberia, the Simulate, was on helm. Lt Commander Zhang had the Big Chair. She was in her "mostly-human" phase, thank finagle.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It was a quiet shift. We were cruising interspace to the Lesser nebulae on a milkrun, low-pri, supernominal. Even Universe Class Hypercruisers like the X.X. Inconcievable make milkruns sometimes, ours just cost more.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Zhang was reading the dailies. Cyberia was doing an old-Earth Crossword puzzle. He had a lot of strange affectations like that, but hey, give him a break, he was the smartest sentient in the Sextant, and just a short Looey on his sleeve for the trouble.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;at 6-3 we had some trouble with uncondensers. One of the Spung was on Engineering, and handled it pretty quick. Honestly, they are nice folks, I guess, but I can never tell the Spung apart. Call me a vertebraniac, but they dont even have any differenetiated tissue, for finagle's sake.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;by 6-5 i was wondering what had happened to Wing. Had she gone for a tryst one of her poddies again? That perv. I was stuck on station for the whole shift then. She'd pay for that.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At 6-6, Cyberia looked up. "Lt Commander Zhang, I have discovered a new form of sentient life."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Zhang snapped to attention. "Scanners! Comp! Lights up! Cyberia, where is it? What is it?" The Mainscreen was obviously blank.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"It is here sir. This very crossword puzzle."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Dont be a sploosh-head," Zhang said. Zhang was known for her informality. "How can a crossword puzzle be sentient?"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"The interaction of these clues and answers, taken in totality with the previous three years of daily puzzles, in sequence, indicates to me that we have, since the dawn of crossword puzzles, been creating and training a 6th order algorithmoidal Zentity that.."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Yes, yes, I get it," Zhang said. I thought I heard the Spung snickering, but if Zhang heard, she ignored it. "So, this puzzle-thing. Are they mad at us for, well, solving them all the time? are they going to attack or anything?"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"No sir. I think they wants to join the Uncommonwealth. It is possible that being solved is an integral part of their life-cycle. I speculate that we may soon have a crossword puzzle-based Ensign who..."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Fine, that's fine. Log it. The Admiral will want to deal with it himself when he gets up."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Very good sir. The Crossword puzzle Zentity may in fact desire to ally with us against the Anamoly, since..."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Lt Cyberia?"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Yes sir?"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"In the morning."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Simulate appaeared to sigh a bit, and gave in. "As you say sir."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"And Cyberia, maybe you should put that puzzle away until then."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Yes sir."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Zhang order the lights back down and settled into the Big Chair with buried her face in her hands, and the rest of the shift passed in total silence. It was going to be a long, long run to the Lesser Nebula.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I started to plan my revenge on Ensign Wing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;</content>

    <content type="html">Iraq: The First 5 years&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There's something odd about the anniversary - lots of (conservative) pundits have articles and interviews, talking about their personal journey and all that. But actual anti-war voices are still mostly outside of the public discourse.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I find this odd.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I mean, I said the war would go badly. I was proven right. Surely people should be asking my opinion about things moving forward, now that I am established as a person who was right about things?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When I am gone, people will say "That Stacey - she was right on the iraq war, right about the war on terror, right about global warming, right about evolution and torture and all those other things - it's too bad she was such a hippie though, you can't blame us for not listening to a hippie!"</content>

Can you imagine a religious authority daring to say bad things about America?</content>

There is only an up or down— up to a man's age-old dream; the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order— or down to the totalitarianism of the ant heap, and regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would trade our freedom for security have embarked on this downward course."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That's actually a Reagan quote, and he's complaining about how the left is drifting towards totalitarianism - they want government to offer too much security, and so on.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And yet, if you just read the quote for what it says, it sure sounds like a complaint about the current administration, doesn't it?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I'm with Reagan - when a conservative tells you (as Romney did recently) that "Our most basic civil liberty is the right to be kept alive..."  (notice the verb "kept") then that age-old dream of  the ultimate individual freedom consistent with law and order that Reagan spoke of has been lost.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let's not trade any more freedom for security - regardless of their good motives, let's step away from their downward course.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No third term.</content>

I'm no good at selling things, and this is my personal blog, so i feel no need to be circumspect. i work really, really hard at this comic. It dominates my free time and all my other times as well. If you're thinking "no one ever sees Princess Stacey anymore" this is the reason.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And it's really good.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.rocketshipagogo.com"&gt;Rocketship A Go-Go&lt;/a&gt; is Sci-fi adventure with a light touch. It's a daily webcomic with likeable characters and wondrous mysteries. Its drawn in a crisp, clear style and it has a wonderful mixture of modern and retro Sci-fi sensibilities. Its part 1950's monster movie and part family friendly transfest. Its got handsome tomboys and beautiful androids. Its got values. Its got glamour. It has lizard-men and giant ants and spaceships and testy robots. It puts friendship first.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Our slogan is  "Together into the Unknown!"  Frankly, the slogan alone should sell you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;img src="http://www.rocketshipagogo.com/images/214.gif"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Several hundred people read &lt;a href="http://www.rocketshipagogo.com"&gt;Rocketship A Go-Go&lt;/a&gt; every day. Don't you wish you were one of them?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Look at it this way - if a few hundred thousand people read my comic, they will turn it into a big time movie with, like, Devon Aoki and Clea DuVall and Leisha Hailey. And then they will pay me a lot of money and I will be rich. And if I'm rich, I can afford clothes and stuff, and I can go out and you'll see more of me.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Doesn't that sound nice?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So read my damn comic. Then tell all of your friends to read it. Then, send it to all your favorite blogs. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I'll totally owe you one.</content>

    <title>Meet River</title>

    <content type="html">A week and a half ago, someone found a kitten hiding in a paper bag out in the freezing rain. The kitten was starving and wild. They took the kitten to their vet.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On Sunday, she came home to live with us.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;img src="http://www.rocketshipagogo.com/img/River1.jpg"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Meet River, the latest addition to our family.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;River arrived under weight, under developed, and kinda feral.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On Sunday, River mostly hid from us.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On Monday, River hid from us a lot. We started to catch on just how little experience she had with people. We found her to be a mysterious mystery. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On Tuesday, River played a little bit. It was obvious to us that she was still too weak and sick to be a proper kitten. We took her to City Cats in Arlington where some expert care (and saline) put a new sparkle into her eye.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now River is starting to act like a kitten. She's lobbying to be given the run of the house so she can meet Dali and Barda (um, not yet) and she's been trying to figure out how to enter the village and meet Gorgo and Tillicus who really, really fascinate her (sorry, but no).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;She plays crazily - almost as much as you'd expect from a kitten. Today, for the first time, she really asked for food - and at last, she's starting to eat like a starving cat should eat.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;River has a lot to learn. She doesn't know much about being a Kitten, or being a cat. I think we confuse her terribly. And she's just so small and scrawny that it can be a little scary.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But she lives here now. She has a home. She has a family. She has all the catfood, treats, and chicken soup she wants.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;img src="http://www.rocketshipagogo.com/img/river2.jpg"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Merry Xmas River, and welcome home.</content>

    <content type="html">The latest national polls contain an odd note of Hope. With Obama and Huckabeee both doing well, you can almost imagine the two of them getting nominated.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Wouldn't Huckabee vs Obama be great for the country? Perhaps I'm being starry-eyed, but i feel like it would be a big step toward dismantling the Clinton-Rove blue-red split that is so damaging to our country. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At least, I think it would be a good step in that direction.</content>
